Quick answer: Swanson Health Products is a Fargo, North Dakota, company that has sold supplements by mail since 1969. It runs two businesses under one name: a large online store that sells many other brands, and its own Swanson-brand range. The house brand is cheap per bottle, uses plain single-ingredient labels and backs its own products with a 100-day money-back guarantee. For longevity buyers, the catch is bottle size and dose. Swanson Premium NMN holds 300 mg per capsule and 30 capsules for $44.49, which works out to $4.94 per gram of NMN, and Swanson makes no TUDCA, spermidine or Ca-AKG. Our pick is Eternal Elixir NMN 500mg: 500 mg per capsule, 90 capsules for $49.99, or $1.11 per gram.
Eternal Elixir makes NMN 500mg and the other products compared below, and we compete with Swanson, so read this as a competitor’s review. Every Swanson figure comes from its own product pages, Supplement Facts panels and policy pages, read on September 25, 2026. We did not buy or lab-test Swanson products. Here is how we write and review content.
Swanson review 2026: who is behind the name
Swanson’s own history page tells the story. In 1968, Leland Swanson ordered 5,000 vitamin E capsules from an Ohio manufacturer and started selling them by mail from Fargo. Swanson Health Products followed in 1969, and it grew from small mail-order catalogs into the online store it runs today.
The founding family no longer owns it. Private equity firm Swander Pace Capital completed its purchase of Swanson in January 2016, and Swander Pace still lists Swanson as a current investment.
The most useful thing to know before reading any Swanson review is that swansonvitamins.com is two businesses on one site. The first is a store. Search it for berberine and you get Thorne and Solaray next to Swanson’s own bottle. Search for NMN and Codeage and Doctor’s Best appear. The second is the Swanson brand, which Swanson develops and labels itself.
That split matters in two ways. Store-review sites such as Trustpilot rate the shopping experience, so they say more about orders and delivery than about what is in a Swanson capsule. The guarantee differs too. Swanson’s 100-day money-back guarantee covers Swanson-brand products, while other brands bought on the site fall under its standard return policy. Our NOW Foods review and Nutricost review cover two brands that mostly sell their own label.
Swanson’s product lines, decoded
Swanson groups its house brand into named lines. The names are loose guides to what is inside the bottle. They say nothing about how it was tested.
- Swanson Premium holds standard single-ingredient products at low prices, such as NMN and Berberine. A few Premium products use a branded ingredient, like the Berbevis berberine.
- Swanson Ultra holds most of the branded ingredients (AjiPure amino acids, DiosVein diosmin, Aquamin sea minerals) and the “higher potency” versions, such as its 250 mg resveratrol. It also holds low-dose items, including a 50 mg resveratrol and a 50 mg pterostilbene.
- Swanson Superior Herbs covers botanical extracts, including two shilajit extracts standardized to fulvic acid.
- Swanson Passion is the men’s range, home to a tongkat ali root capsule and the LongJax extract.
Use the line as a first check when a Swanson price looks low next to a rival. A Premium product priced against a branded or standardized extract often compares two different materials. Our Solaray review found a similar tiering pattern worth checking before any price comparison.
Is Swanson third-party tested?
Swanson makes three quality claims on its own pages:
- Its homepage says more than 750 of its items are third-party tested, and its quality page says it uses outside pharmaceutical-grade testing for purity and potency.
- It says NSF, an outside standards organization, has checked its facility against current good manufacturing practice (cGMP) standards.
- It says every ingredient supplier must send a certificate of analysis showing the ingredient meets Swanson’s specification.
What we could not find is a test report for a finished lot. None of the four Swanson product pages we read (NMN, Resveratrol Higher Potency, Shilajit Extract and Tongkat Ali) posts a certificate of analysis for the bottle you would receive. You are relying on Swanson’s description of its process. Some budget brands go further: our Double Wood Supplements review covers a brand that posts lot lab reports on its product pages.
The Swanson longevity shelf, product by product
Here is what the Swanson brand sells for a longevity buyer, taken from its product pages on September 25, 2026.
NMN. Swanson Premium NMN gives 300 mg of NMN in a one-capsule serving, with 30 servings per bottle for $44.49. That is $1.48 per serving. An NMN + Beet Root Complex adds 150 mg of beet juice powder to the same 300 mg of NMN, at $51.09 for 30 capsules.
Resveratrol. Swanson Ultra Resveratrol Higher Potency lists 250 mg of resveratrol extract from Polygonum cuspidatum root per capsule, which its description calls trans-resveratrol. A bottle holds 30 gelatin capsules for $25.19, or $0.84 per serving. The 50 mg and 100 mg versions cost less but give far less per capsule.
Shilajit. Superior Herbs Shilajit Extract gives 400 mg per capsule, standardized to 5% fulvic acid, with 60 servings for $12.89. That is $0.21 per serving and about 20 mg of fulvic acid. The Extra Strength version uses 100 mg of Tru-Fulvic shilajit standardized to at least 70% fulvic acids and related compounds, with 30 servings for $12.29.
Tongkat ali. Passion Tongkat Ali lists 800 mg of Eurycoma longifolia root in a two-capsule serving, with 60 servings for $18.39, or $0.31 per serving. The label names the root, not an extract. The LongJax product is a 20:1 extract at 400 mg per capsule, 30 capsules for $15.34 on sale when we checked (list price $27.89).
The rest of the shelf. Swanson Ultra Pterostilbene is 50 mg per capsule, 30 capsules for $8.19. Premium Berberine is 400 mg of berberine HCl per capsule, 60 capsules for $23.79, and the label says to take one capsule two to three times a day.
The gaps. Swanson’s store search returned no TUDCA and no spermidine from any brand, and no calcium alpha-ketoglutarate (Ca-AKG). Its Arginine AKG is an arginine product sold for nitric oxide, not a Ca-AKG supplement. Swanson makes no nicotinamide riboside (NR) either, though the store sells NR from other brands such as Life Extension. A longevity routine built on those actives needs a second supplier.
Our guides to the best TUDCA supplements, the best spermidine supplements and the best Ca-AKG supplements compare the brands that do sell them. Our Life Extension review covers one of the NR brands Swanson stocks, and our NR comparison covers the rest.
Swanson vs Eternal Elixir: price per serving and per gram
Bottle price is the wrong unit here, because the bottles differ in both capsule count and dose. These are one-time prices on each brand’s US store as of Sep 2026, before any subscription or multi-bottle discount.

Two honest conclusions follow. Swanson wins on entry price and on price per serving for shilajit and tongkat ali. $12.89 for two months of shilajit is a low barrier, and if you only want to find out whether an ingredient suits you, that counts for a lot.
Those per-serving wins come with less or different material, though. Our shilajit serving works out to about 200 mg of fulvic acid against about 20 mg in Swanson’s standardized capsule, and Swanson’s Passion capsule holds tongkat ali root rather than an extract. On NMN and resveratrol, where the milligrams compare directly, our bottles cost less per gram: NMN at $1.11 against $4.94, and resveratrol at $1.11 against $3.36.
Subscriptions narrow the NMN gap without closing it. Swanson’s NMN page offered 40% off the first subscription delivery and 30% off later ones. At 30% off, the bottle costs $31.14, which is still $3.46 per gram. Our multi-bottle discounts take 10% off two bottles, 15% off three and 20% off five, and US orders over $100 ship free. Swanson says recurring subscription orders ship free over $35.
What the research says about these doses
NMN: 300 mg raised blood NAD, and higher doses raised it more
In a 60-day randomized, placebo-controlled trial in GeroScience (Yi and colleagues, 2023), 80 healthy middle-aged adults took a placebo or 300 mg, 600 mg or 900 mg of NMN once a day. Blood NAD rose in all three NMN groups and was highest at 600 mg and 900 mg. Six-minute walking distance improved in every NMN group, most at the two higher doses. An insulin-resistance measure (HOMA-IR) did not change compared with placebo. The lead author worked for an NMN supplier.
Swanson’s 300 mg capsule matches the lowest dose in that trial. Our 500 mg capsule sits between the 300 mg and 600 mg arms, so its exact effect was not measured there. Evidence level: one 60-day randomized human trial measuring blood NAD. NMN has not been shown to extend human lifespan. Our NMN safety guide covers tolerability, and our roundup of the best NMN supplements compares other brands.
Resveratrol: one long trial at a modest dose
The RESHAW trial in the Journal of Bone and Mineral Research (Wong and colleagues, 2020) gave postmenopausal women 75 mg of resveratrol twice a day in a 24-month crossover design, and 125 women completed it. After 12 months, bone density in the lower spine was 0.016 grams per square centimeter higher than on placebo. That daily total of 150 mg is below both Swanson’s 250 mg capsule and our 600 mg capsule. A higher dose has not been shown to work better.
Evidence level: one long human trial in a specific group of women. Our resveratrol supplement comparison covers the wider research.

Shilajit: the trial used one purified extract
In a 90-day randomized, placebo-controlled trial in Andrologia (Pandit and colleagues, 2016), 96 healthy men aged 45 to 55 took 250 mg of a purified shilajit extract (PrimaVie) twice a day or a placebo, and 75 completed the study. Total testosterone, free testosterone and DHEAS rose compared with placebo. The extract was standardized to at least 50% fulvic acids.
Neither Swanson’s shilajit nor ours is PrimaVie, so that trial does not transfer directly to either product. What a label can tell you is how much fulvic acid each serving carries. Evidence level: one trial of one branded extract in middle-aged men. Our guide to shilajit for men and our shilajit comparison go further.
Tongkat ali: trials used standardized water extracts
In a four-week placebo-controlled trial in the Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition (Talbott and colleagues, 2013), 63 moderately stressed adults completed a course of 200 mg a day of a standardized hot-water tongkat ali root extract (Physta) or a placebo. In the extract group, salivary cortisol exposure fell 16% and testosterone status rose 37%, and tension, anger and confusion scores improved. Biotropics Malaysia, which makes the extract, funded the study, and one author worked for it.
Swanson’s Passion capsule is powdered root, a different material from the extracts used in trials. Our 200:1 extract is concentrated, but it is not Physta either, and extracts are not interchangeable. Evidence level: small, short human trials of specific extracts. Our tongkat ali comparison covers the options.
How Swanson compares with other brands we’ve reviewed
Swanson sits with the big value brands. Our Micro Ingredients review and BulkSupplements review cover two more budget names. Our Source Naturals review covers a long-running health food store brand, and our Thorne review covers a premium brand that Swanson also stocks. Our supplement dose gap report compares US label doses with the doses used in human trials, and our guide to the best longevity supplements gives the category view.
Who should buy Swanson, and who shouldn’t
Swanson suits you if you want one cart for everyday vitamins, minerals and common herbs, care most about a low entry price, and like a long guarantee window. Its Superior Herbs shilajit at $12.89 for 60 capsules is a low price for a standardized extract.
Look elsewhere if you are building a daily longevity routine. The Swanson brand makes no TUDCA, spermidine, Ca-AKG or NR, and its NMN and resveratrol come in 30-capsule bottles at lower doses per capsule, which costs more per gram. A split cart works for many people: everyday basics from Swanson, and concentrated longevity actives from a brand that sells them in larger bottles.
Swanson review: frequently asked questions
Is Swanson a good supplement brand?
For everyday vitamins and common herbs, it is a reasonable value choice. It has sold supplements since 1969, uses plain single-ingredient labels and offers a 100-day money-back guarantee on its own products. For longevity actives, its doses per capsule are modest, its bottles are small and several key compounds are missing. We did not find lot test reports on its product pages.
Is Swanson third-party tested?
Swanson says it uses outside labs for purity and potency testing, and its homepage says more than 750 items are third-party tested. It also says NSF has checked its facility against cGMP standards. The product pages we read did not post a certificate of analysis for the finished lot, so you cannot check a specific bottle yourself.
Who owns Swanson vitamins?
Private equity firm Swander Pace Capital bought Swanson Health Products in January 2016 and lists it as a current investment. Leland Swanson founded the company in Fargo, North Dakota, in 1969.
Why are Swanson vitamins so cheap?
Three reasons show up on its own pages. Many products are standard single-ingredient formulas rather than branded extracts. Many bottles are small, so a low sticker price can still mean a high cost per gram: Swanson NMN costs $4.94 per gram against $1.11 for ours. And subscriptions add further discounts on Swanson-brand products.
What is Swanson’s return policy?
Swanson-brand products bought from Swanson or an authorized US seller carry a 100-day money-back guarantee. You can ask for a refund of the purchase price or a replacement, and shipping costs are not refunded. Swanson says returns worth more than $500 carry a 20% restocking fee. Other brands bought on its site follow its standard return policy.
Does Swanson sell NMN, TUDCA or spermidine?
Swanson sells NMN: a 300 mg capsule and an NMN + Beet Root Complex. Its store search returned no TUDCA and no spermidine on September 25, 2026. Eternal Elixir sells both, along with NMN at 500 mg per capsule.

What is the best alternative to Swanson NMN?
Our pick is Eternal Elixir NMN 500mg, which we make. It declares 500 mg per capsule with 90 capsules for $49.99, or $1.11 per gram, against 300 mg per capsule and $4.94 per gram for Swanson Premium NMN. If you only want 300 mg a day for one month, Swanson’s single bottle costs less up front.

Our verdict on Swanson
Swanson is an established value brand with a long guarantee, a plain account of its quality process and a store that stocks many other brands. For longevity, its own range is thin and small-bottled: NMN at 300 mg per capsule in 30-capsule bottles, and no TUDCA, spermidine, Ca-AKG or NR of its own. If NMN is what brought you here, our NMN 500mg puts 500 mg in each capsule, 90 to a bottle, at less than a quarter of Swanson’s cost per gram.
