Best Supplements for Women Over 50 in 2026: 6 Products Compared

Best supplements for women over 50: smiling woman with gray hair outdoors

Edited by Elaine Fletcher, Researcher

Last updated: October 22, 2026 · By Ryan Roberts · 6 products compared

You are a few years past your last period. Sleep is lighter than it used to be, the afternoon slump arrives earlier, and your doctor has started mentioning bone density at checkups. So you search for the best supplements for women over 50 and find a wall of multivitamin product pages. A multivitamin covers basic nutrient gaps. It does not tell you which botanicals have been studied in women who have actually been through menopause.

This guide does that work. We compared six supplements sold in the US: one mainstream 50+ multivitamin and five botanical or antioxidant products. For each we list the label dose, the price of one serving in dollars and the placebo-controlled trial in postmenopausal women behind it, if one exists. We also note what each trial measured, because a menopause symptom score, a bone scan and a skin reading answer very different questions.

Quick Answer

Eternal Elixir Korean Panax Ginseng 1600mg is our top pick among supplements for women over 50 because red ginseng is the one ingredient in this list with two placebo-controlled trials in postmenopausal women, and each two-capsule serving is labeled at a minimum of 80 mg of ginsenosides for $1.00. For basic micronutrient coverage, Nature Made Multi for Her 50+ is the best choice at about $0.15 a tablet.

Best Supplements for Women Over 50 at a Glance

Prices were read on October 22, 2026 from the Eternal Elixir store and from the Nature Made and Double Wood brand stores. Every row is normalized to one label serving, so a two-capsule serving counts once, which makes the best supplements for women over 50 easy to compare on cost. The rank follows the weighting explained in the methodology section further down.

Two notes on the numbers. The Shilajit price is a sale price shown on the product page on the day we checked, so it may change. The Nature Made figure is the brand store’s own list price; warehouse clubs and pharmacies sometimes sell larger bottles for less per tablet.

If you are still in your forties, our supplement guide for women in their forties covers the earlier perimenopause years with a different product set.

1. Eternal Elixir Korean Panax Ginseng 1600mg: Our Pick

Key specs: 1,600 mg Korean red Panax ginseng root extract per two-capsule serving, standardized to a minimum of 5% ginsenosides. 90 capsules per bottle, which is 45 servings. $44.99, or $1.00 per serving.

Among the best supplements for women over 50, red ginseng is the strongest fit for one reason: it has been tested directly in women past menopause, more than once. In a 12-week double-blind trial published in Menopause, Kim and colleagues gave 72 postmenopausal women aged 45 to 60 either red ginseng (3 g a day, supplying 60 mg of ginsenosides) or a placebo. The ginseng group’s menopause symptom scores improved more than placebo on two separate scales, and total and LDL cholesterol readings fell. Estradiol did not change, which matters if you want support that does not act like a hormone (PubMed 22027944).

A second trial, from the Yonsei University group in Nutrients, randomized 63 postmenopausal women to Korean red ginseng or placebo. Fatigue severity scores dropped more in the ginseng group, and two lab markers of cellular aging and antioxidant status (mitochondrial DNA copy number and total antioxidant status) rose (PubMed 34578969). Results like these may support daytime energy, though they come from small studies in Korean women and should be read that way.

How does the label compare with those trials? At the 5% floor, one Eternal Elixir serving carries at least 80 mg of ginsenosides, above the 60 mg per day used in the menopause trial. The extract weight is lower than the 3 g of whole red ginseng in that study because a standardized extract concentrates the active saponins. Our guide to ginseng benefits for women walks through the full trial list, including the studies that found no effect.

Pros:

  • Two placebo-controlled trials in postmenopausal women behind the ingredient
  • Labeled ginsenoside floor (80 mg) sits above the menopause trial’s daily amount
  • Ships in 24 hours within the US, with free shipping over $100
  • Third-party tested, and the batch COA is available on request

Cons:

  • $1.00 a serving costs more than a basic multivitamin
  • Ginseng can keep some people awake if taken late in the day
  • This finished product has not itself been clinically tested

Best for: women past menopause who want one evidence-led product for energy and menopause comfort before adding anything else.

Price and where to buy: $44.99 for 90 capsules direct from Eternal Elixir. View Korean Panax Ginseng 1600mg. If you are weighing other ginseng brands, our ranked list of ginseng supplements compares seven of them.

2. Eternal Elixir Shilajit 1000mg: For Bone-Focused Routines

Key specs: 1,000 mg of 20:1 shilajit extract standardized to 20% fulvic acid per two-capsule serving. 60 capsules per bottle (30 servings). $44.99 on sale (regular $59.99), so $1.50 per serving at today’s price.

Bone density is the change many women hear about first after 50, and shilajit is the surprise entry here. In a 48-week randomized, double-blind trial published in Phytomedicine, Pingali and Nutalapati gave 60 postmenopausal women aged 45 to 65 with low bone density either a placebo or a standardized shilajit extract at 250 mg or 500 mg a day. Bone mineral density at the spine and hip fell steadily in the placebo group. In both shilajit groups that loss was smaller, and more so at the higher dose. Markers of bone turnover and oxidative stress moved in the same direction (PubMed 35933897).

One caveat applies. The trial used one specific aqueous extract, and ours is a different 20:1 extract, so the result does not transfer automatically to any bottle on the market. Shilajit may help support bone health alongside the basics (calcium, vitamin D, protein and resistance exercise), never in place of them. Our review of shilajit benefits for women covers this study and the rest of the research in more depth.

Pros:

  • A 48-week placebo-controlled trial in postmenopausal women with low bone density
  • Label states extract ratio, fulvic acid standard and serving dose
  • On sale at the time of writing

Cons:

  • Highest price per serving in this list at $1.50
  • The trial extract differs from this product’s extract
  • 60 capsules last 30 days at the label serving

Best for: women who already cover calcium and vitamin D and want a bone-focused addition with a long human trial behind it.

Price and where to buy: $44.99 for 60 capsules from Eternal Elixir. Order Shilajit 1000mg.

3. Nature Made Multi for Her 50+: The Low-Cost Foundation

Key specs: one tablet a day with water and a meal, 22 nutrients including B vitamins, vitamins A, C, D and E, and zinc. 90 tablets for $13.59 on the brand store, which works out to about $0.15 per serving.

A multivitamin is not glamorous, and it will not do what the botanicals in this list are studied for. It does cover the nutrient gaps that become more common after 50, such as vitamin B12 absorption and vitamin D status, at a price that is hard to argue with. Nature Made describes the formula as support for immune health, bone health and cellular energy production. For many women it is a sensible base layer, and every other product here sits on top of it.

The trade-off is breadth over depth. A single tablet spreads 22 nutrients across one small serving, so it contains no ginseng, shilajit or other botanical at a studied amount. If your diet is already varied and your doctor has checked your vitamin D and B12, the extra value may be small.

Pros:

  • About $0.15 a day, the lowest-cost multivitamin we found
  • One tablet, taken with a meal
  • Sold at most US pharmacies as well as online

Cons:

  • No botanical ingredients and no menopause-specific trial behind the formula
  • Covers basics only, so it rarely answers the reason most women start searching

Best for: a low-cost daily foundation, especially if you eat a narrow diet.

Price and where to buy: $13.59 for 90 tablets on naturemade.com, also stocked by US pharmacies and big-box stores.

4. Eternal Elixir Trans-Resveratrol 600mg: For the Postmenopausal Bone Research

Key specs: 600 mg of 98% pure trans-resveratrol from Polygonum cuspidatum root, one capsule per serving. 90 capsules per bottle (90 servings). $59.99, or $0.67 per serving.

Resveratrol has one of the longest trials in women past menopause of any supplement on the shelf. The Resveratrol for Healthy Aging in Women (RESHAW) trial, run in Australia and published in the Journal of Bone and Mineral Research, gave postmenopausal women 75 mg twice a day or a placebo in a 24-month crossover design. After 12 months, bone density at the lumbar spine and the neck of the femur was higher on resveratrol than on placebo, and a blood marker of bone breakdown was 7.24% lower (PubMed 32564438). The authors also reported that the benefit was larger in women who were taking vitamin D and calcium.

Be clear about the dose. RESHAW used 150 mg a day in total. One Eternal Elixir capsule holds 600 mg, four times that amount, so this product does not mirror the trial dose. Ask your doctor about the right amount for you, and check first if you take blood thinners, since resveratrol can interact with them. Our resveratrol interactions guide lists the common ones.

If you are torn between resveratrol and its cousin pterostilbene, our pterostilbene vs resveratrol comparison sets the two side by side.

Pros:

  • A 24-month placebo-controlled trial in postmenopausal women behind the ingredient
  • 98% trans-resveratrol, the form used in research
  • 90 servings per bottle at $0.67 each

Cons:

  • One capsule is four times the RESHAW daily dose
  • Interaction checks needed for blood thinners

Best for: women interested in the bone and circulation research after menopause who are comfortable with a higher-dose capsule.

Price and where to buy: $59.99 for 90 capsules from Eternal Elixir. Buy Trans-Resveratrol 600mg, or see how it ranks against other brands in our resveratrol supplement comparison.

5. Double Wood Maca Root: Lowest Price per Serving

Key specs: 1,000 mg maca root per two-capsule serving (500 mg capsules). 300 capsules per bottle, or 150 servings. $19.95, which is about $0.13 per serving, the lowest in this list. The brand suggests 1,000 to 2,000 mg a day on an empty stomach and publishes a lot-specific certificate of analysis.

Maca is a Peruvian root that many women try for mood and libido in the menopause years. The human evidence is thin but specific. In a small crossover trial in Menopause, Brooks and colleagues gave 14 postmenopausal women 3.5 g of powdered maca a day for six weeks and a placebo for six weeks. Scores for psychological symptoms and for sexual function on a standard menopause scale improved during the maca phase, while estradiol and other hormones stayed the same (PubMed 18784609).

Fourteen women is a pilot, not proof. The trial dose of 3.5 g also equals seven Double Wood capsules, more than the label’s suggested range. Still, at $0.13 a serving it is an inexpensive thing to try for a couple of months.

Pros:

  • Lowest price per serving in this list
  • 300 capsules last five months at one serving a day
  • Lot-specific certificate of analysis on the product page

Cons:

  • Human evidence rests on one 14-person pilot trial
  • The trial dose is well above the label serving

Best for: women on a tight budget who want to try a plant option for mood and libido during the menopause years.

Price and where to buy: $19.95 for 300 capsules on the Double Wood brand store.

6. Eternal Elixir Reduced L-Glutathione 2000mg: For Skin and Antioxidant Support

Key specs: 2,000 mg reduced L-glutathione per two-capsule serving. 60 capsules per bottle (30 servings). $39.99, or $1.33 per serving.

Skin changes quickly after menopause, and glutathione is the antioxidant most often studied for skin. In a 12-week double-blind trial in Clinical, Cosmetic and Investigational Dermatology, Weschawalit and colleagues gave healthy women 250 mg a day of reduced glutathione, oxidized glutathione or a placebo. The reduced-glutathione group showed fewer wrinkles at some measured sites than placebo, and skin elasticity tended to improve (PubMed 28490897).

A longer trial at Penn State, published in the European Journal of Nutrition, tested 250 mg or 1,000 mg a day for six months in 54 non-smoking adults. Glutathione stores in blood cells rose by 30 to 35% at the higher dose and returned to baseline after a month off (PubMed 24791752). The Eternal Elixir serving of 2,000 mg is higher than either trial dose. For dry skin on the outside, Eternal Elixir also makes a Grass-Fed Tallow Balm with five ingredients. For timing tips, see our guide to the best time to take glutathione.

Pros:

  • Reduced (GSH) form, the form tested in both trials
  • Human data on skin and on body glutathione stores
  • Pairs well with ginseng for a two-product routine

Cons:

  • The skin trial was not limited to women over 50
  • The label serving is above the doses studied

Best for: women whose main concern after 50 is skin, or who want an antioxidant alongside their main pick.

Price and where to buy: $39.99 for 60 capsules from Eternal Elixir. Try Reduced L-Glutathione 2000mg. Our glutathione supplement rankings compare it with five other brands.

What Each Trial Actually Measured

Lists of the best supplements for women over 50 often cite a study without saying what it measured. That detail decides whether a result applies to you. A trial that tracked menopause symptom scores tells you nothing about bone density, and a skin study in younger women says little about skin after 60. The table below maps each ingredient to its trial population, dose, length and outcome, next to what one label serving provides.

IngredientWho was studiedTrial dose and lengthWhat was measuredOne label serving in this list
Red ginseng72 postmenopausal women, 45 to 603 g (60 mg ginsenosides) daily, 12 weeksMenopause symptom scores, cholesterol, estradiol1,600 mg extract, at least 80 mg ginsenosides
Korean red ginseng63 postmenopausal womenPlacebo-controlledFatigue score, mitochondrial DNA copy number, antioxidant statusSame as above
Shilajit60 postmenopausal women, 45 to 65, low bone density250 or 500 mg daily, 48 weeksSpine and hip bone density, bone turnover markers1,000 mg of a different 20:1 extract
ResveratrolPostmenopausal women (RESHAW)75 mg twice daily, 12 months per phaseSpine and femoral neck bone density, bone breakdown marker600 mg, four times the daily trial amount
Maca14 postmenopausal women3.5 g daily, 6 weeks (crossover)Psychological and sexual function scores, hormones1,000 mg, under a third of the trial amount
Reduced glutathioneHealthy women (skin); 54 adults (body stores)250 mg daily for 12 weeks; 250 or 1,000 mg daily for 6 monthsWrinkles, elasticity, melanin; blood glutathione levels2,000 mg

Two patterns stand out. First, ginseng is the only ingredient here studied twice in postmenopausal women, which is why it sits at #1. Second, bone density is the outcome with the longest trials (48 weeks for shilajit, 12 months per phase for resveratrol), so a bone-focused routine needs patience. Nobody should expect a bone scan to change in a month.

Building a Routine in Your Fifties and Sixties

Even the best supplements for women over 50 work better added one at a time. Adding six bottles at once makes it impossible to tell what helps. A slower order works better, and it is cheaper.

  1. Cover the basics first. Ask your doctor to check vitamin D and B12, then decide whether a multivitamin such as Nature Made Multi for Her 50+ is worth $0.15 a day for you.
  2. Pick one main goal. For energy and menopause comfort, start with Eternal Elixir Korean Panax Ginseng. For bone health, look at shilajit or resveratrol alongside calcium, vitamin D and strength training.
  3. Give it eight to twelve weeks. The ginseng trials ran around 12 weeks, so judge it over that window.
  4. Add a second product only if you need it. Glutathione is the natural partner if skin is the next priority.

A two-product routine of Eternal Elixir Korean Panax Ginseng and Reduced L-Glutathione costs $2.33 a day at label servings. Ordering both bottles together comes to $84.98, just under the $100 free-shipping line.

Checks to Run Before You Start

None of these products replaces medical care, and some interact with common prescriptions. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist first if any of these apply:

  • Blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs. Ginseng and resveratrol may both affect bleeding time.
  • Blood-sugar medication. Ginseng may lower blood sugar, which can add to the effect of your medication.
  • Hormone therapy. The ginseng and maca trials found no change in estradiol, but your prescriber should still know what you take.
  • Sleep. Take ginseng in the morning if it makes you feel wired.

Our overview of ginseng side effects covers what the trials reported in more detail, and our glutathione benefits guide explains what is known about long-term use.

How We Evaluated These Products

Eternal Elixir makes Korean Panax Ginseng 1600mg; it is our pick, and every figure for the other products is taken from their own labels and retailer pages. We did not test any product ourselves. Each product was scored on five criteria:

  • Quality and purity (30%): clear label doses, standardized extracts and published testing such as certificates of analysis.
  • US availability and shipping speed (20%): how quickly a US buyer can get the bottle.
  • Price per dose in USD (20%): the cost of one label serving, read on October 22, 2026.
  • Product range for stacking (15%): whether the brand sells complementary products you can combine.
  • Customer reviews and reputation (15%): how established the brand is with US buyers.

To choose the best supplements for women over 50, we also weighed the evidence behind each ingredient in women past menopause, which is why a placebo-controlled trial in that group counted for more than a study in younger adults. Brands paid nothing to appear here.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best supplement for women over 50?

Our pick is Eternal Elixir Korean Panax Ginseng 1600mg. Red ginseng has two placebo-controlled trials in postmenopausal women, one showing better menopause symptom scores and one showing lower fatigue scores, and this product costs $1.00 a serving. A basic multivitamin can sit underneath it if your diet has gaps.

What is the best vitamin for women?

There is no single best vitamin for every woman. After 50, vitamin D and vitamin B12 are the two most often checked, because absorption and sun exposure change with age. A blood test tells you whether you need either one, and a 50+ multivitamin covers both at a low cost.

Do multivitamins really work?

A multivitamin fills nutrient gaps. If your diet is low in certain vitamins or minerals, it can raise those levels. It is not designed for menopause symptoms, bone density or skin, which is why the botanical products in this list exist.

What supplements help with menopause symptoms after 50?

Red ginseng has the most direct evidence in this list. In a 12-week trial in women aged 45 to 60, 3 g a day improved menopause symptom scores compared with placebo without changing estradiol. Maca improved mood and sexual function scores in a small pilot trial.

Which supplements support bone health after menopause?

Calcium, vitamin D and protein come first. Among the botanicals, shilajit (a 48-week trial) and resveratrol (the RESHAW trial) both slowed bone loss or raised bone density in postmenopausal women compared with placebo. Strength training adds a benefit no capsule can.

Can I take ginseng and a multivitamin together?

Yes, for most women. They contain different ingredients and have no known interaction with each other. Take ginseng in the morning, and check with your doctor if you use blood thinners or blood-sugar medication.

How long do supplements take to work after 50?

The ginseng trials ran about 12 weeks, the shilajit trial 48 weeks and the resveratrol trial 12 months per phase. Plan to take one product consistently for at least two to three months before you judge it.

How do supplement needs change between 40 and 50?

The needs overlap, but the evidence differs. Most trials in this guide enrolled women who were already past menopause, which makes them a closer match for readers over 50. Men in the same age group can compare our guide to supplements for men over 50.

Verdict: Which Supplement Should a Woman Over 50 Choose?

For most women over 50, start with Eternal Elixir Korean Panax Ginseng 1600mg. It is the best supplement here for energy and menopause comfort, with two trials in postmenopausal women and a labeled ginsenoside floor above the menopause trial dose, at $1.00 a day.

  • Bone health is your priority: add Eternal Elixir Shilajit 1000mg or Trans-Resveratrol 600mg, alongside calcium, vitamin D and strength training.
  • You want the basics covered cheaply: Nature Made Multi for Her 50+ at $0.15 a day.
  • You are on a tight budget: Double Wood Maca Root has the lowest price per serving at $0.13.
  • Skin is your main concern: Eternal Elixir Reduced L-Glutathione 2000mg.

Whichever you choose, start one product at a time and give it at least eight weeks. That is how you learn what works for you.
