Siberian ginseng and ashwagandha are useful plants. They are simply not ginseng, and no ginseng trial result transfers to them.

A systematic review and meta-analysis published in the British Journal of Clinical Pharmacology searched 20 electronic databases without language restriction and identified seven randomized clinical trials of red ginseng for erectile dysfunction. Six of them compared red ginseng against placebo.
Pooling those six gave a risk ratio of 2.40 (95% CI 1.65 to 3.51, p < 0.00001) across 349 participants, with low statistical heterogeneity. Subgroup analysis also showed benefit in psychogenic cases.
The caveat the marketing leaves out
The review’s own authors recorded that the methodological quality of the included trials was low on average, and the analysis dates from 2008. A strong pooled effect built from weak component studies is a reason for interest, not certainty.
